Now that summer is right around the corner, we can expect many trends to be popping up. One of the trends that I have seen becoming steadily popular is different shaped sunglasses. There are millions of sunglasses to choose from, and nowadays people don’t buy them for convenience-it’s more of a fashion statement now. When I say different shaped sunglasses, I am not just talking about big circle glasses or small ones. Industries have literally made sunglasses in just about every single shape and color possible. Heart-shaped sunglasses are among the most popular currently. Just because it is becoming a trend doesn’t always mean you will have to pay a fortune for them. Of course, there are some expensive sunglasses, mainly Ray Bans, but there is a vast amount of cheaper ones as well. Sunglasses have always been popular, but it’s up to you to decide which shape/color/style fits you! SADIE TREVINO
With Summer coming up, people have been going for minimalist fashions to keep cooler for this weather. For some reason, a plain white tee shirt has been wildly popular when choosing an outfit. Wearing something so simple makes it easier to stay matching because you can never go wrong throwing on a pair of black jeans and any color jacket; especially with a white shirt. Many people around the school have been pairing the white shirt with a floral cover-up or jacket to add a little flair to the outfit. Doing makeup with this is also super easy because you can go wild with colors or stay completely neutral, it’s up to however you’re feeling at the time. All-in-all, this look can be transformed into something really fun or kept something simple; it’s up to the wearer to decide what they would prefer. ADDIE STEWART
Recently, there was a music festival that is very well known called Coachella. For a few days, people gather from around the world to listen to live music and show off their different outfits. Although the outfits all seem to display the Bohemian look, something that was trending this year was highlighter hair. Now, when I say “highlighter hair,” I mean the bright, neon colors that highlighters typically come in. Of course, the first to flaunt this trend was the one and only Kylie Jenner. She showcased a bright yellow wig at the festival this year as if she didn’t already stand out enough just by being a Jenner. The con to this hairstyle is the way it fades. With any hair dye, it will not always stay looking completely fresh and vibrant with color, which is probably why Kylie resorted to the wig in this highlighter hue. It can also be damaging to dye your hair such a harsh color that is not natural looking. You will have to bleach it first, which strips away all color, then apply the new color. With that being said, is this trend a hit or miss? ADDIE STEWART
Eyebrows have become a very important feature over the last few years, and one trend that is very popular right now is micro-blading. So what exactly is micro-blading? Well, it’s a form of tattooing. Unlike a regular tattoo, it is a form of tattoo artistry where the pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine. There is a true art to this new style. Unlike most tattoos, it is semi-permanent. Most places recommend a follow-up appointment after 45 days of your initial treatment in order to touch some spots up. After the follow-up, your eyebrows will need to heal, like any other normal tattoo. The biggest benefit to this process is that you will never have to worry about filling in your brows again, they will be naturally perfect. The blade strokes are light and made to look like your real eyebrow hair. The only con of this trend is the price. The session normally tends to run about $300-$400 per session, but you only need one session every 1-3 years. You will get to choose exactly what type of eyebrow you want-whether it comes to the arch, length, or thickness-it’s all up to you! ADDIE STEWART
A lot of people use to be all about fringe. Whether it was fringe shirts, fringe boots, fringe sandals, or even fringe swimsuits - that was the number one style of the summer. Notice, however, I use that term in past tense. This is a fashion trend that needs to retire. Maybe it’s because people were so obsessed with making this material stick out on every article of clothing that people just got tired of it, or maybe it’s the fact that it looks childish now. We loved the style because it gives off an Indian vibe, but enough is enough. Maybe in the future, this will make a comeback like a lot of old styles seem to do, but for now, this is out of date. We have overused the trend, and now it is near obsolete in the world of celebrities, which we tend to look up to as fashion icons. SADIE TREVINO
With it warming up (in the afternoons at least), ripped jeans are comfortable to wear more often now. In Arkansas the weather tends to be extreme in the oddest of ways; cold in the morning and really hot in the afternoon, so finding a balance between the two is difficult. Ripped jeans can be the balance that you need on days like that. They give you slight breezes on your legs without the commitment of wearing shorts. Styling these pants is no issue at all, there are people who even wear leggings under them to add a fun touch to their outfit. The only real issue that usually comes up with these are the fact that they vary in tear sizings, some are smaller than others and some are larger. This can be an issue when wearing them during school but any other time you won’t get chastised for it too much. ADDIE STEWART
In case you don’t know what gauges are, it is when a person physically stretches their ear, or wherever they decide to place it, in order to create a big hole in the skin that does not ever close up. This body modification dates back to centuries ago. According to Urban Body Jewelry, this began with the Maasai tribes in Kenya. These people have the mindset that normal earrings simply aren’t enough. Whatever the reasoning is for their choice, it definitely is an attention getter. I cannot speak from personal experience because I do not have them; however, I have heard the hype about them and many opinions throughout the years concerning them. You can pick all different sizes, but this hole is not something that will stretch back into place with time. Pain wise, there are many things that can happen, as there is with all piercings. The pain level to this stretching is marked pretty high, but for every person there is a different pain tolerance. As a result of gauges, infection is very likely. It is crucial to keep the ear, or wherever you decide to put the gauge, completely clean and sterilized. Now it’s up to you to decide whether this fashion trend is a hit or miss! ADDIE STEWART

With summer arriving quicker than it seems, we are about to start seeing a lot more fashion trends that are becoming increasingly popular. One of these trends that are slowly making a comeback is overalls with crop tops underneath them. You can see many celebrities modeling this new fashion. Now, at first it doesn’t seem like the look would be remotely cute at all. The purpose of this outfit is to look slouchy and be comfortable. It’s a unique look and can be quickly thrown on. The only downfall to this look is that it is not perceived as very figure- flattering. Overalls tend to be loose and baggy, but when paired with a crop top, it can be accessorized to give off a completely different look. This summer look will definitely give a different stereotype when it comes to overalls. It’s universal and I predict it will become very popular! SADIE TREVINO
Lately, “punk rock” has made a comeback in the recent fashion. Some of these looks include holey jeans, flannels, combat boots, and old band t-shirts. Now when I say “old” bands, it’s mostly stuff from the 90’s or early 2000’s. The most commonly worn band shirt would be either Nirvana, ACDC (who aren’t necessarily from the 90’s), or Metallica. These shirts can be matched with a trademark red and black flannel, either around the waist or worn normally. With these aesthetics returning, everything surrounding them has also made an appearance in our everyday lives. Chokers, high top converse, the thick eyeliner and hairstyles we do know were all a huge part of the decade before us. ADDIE STEWART
One of the worst fashion trends that have gone around would definitely have to be people wearing denim jackets with denim pants. This trend was very popular in the 90’s, but that is exactly where it should have stayed. Some trends just are not meant to make a comeback. Denim is a universal fabric, and lately, denim chokers have been becoming popular. The Kardashian’s were one of the first icons to model this new style. Denim is not all that bad, just as long as your entire outfit is not the blue-jean material. The heavy material is extremely popular when it comes to wearing something ripped. A majority of denim, whether it be jeans or jackets, are now made with holes in them. No matter which way you decide to incorporate this into your wardrobe, just make sure you do not walk out with every aspect of your outfit matching with the exact same fabric. SADIE TREVINO
With summer coming up around the corner, many people will be preparing to buy a newer, “in style” swimsuit. Swimsuits are made in various fitting styles, patterns, and are available in one piece, bikini, tankinis, halter tops, high waisted etc. to fit almost every person's body type. One piece swimsuits are starting to make a comeback, especially those with geometrical patterns on them or with mesh linings. Whether it be beach, pool or anything in between, swimsuits can always be mixed and matched to fit accordingly. Always remember to wear sunscreen to be safe though. ADDIE STEWART
Typically when we talk about fashion, we look to the most iconic people in the celebrity world. A few examples of these people are Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, GiGi Hadid, and all of the Kardashians. We look to them for the hottest trends, and although most of the time people go with whatever they are wearing, sometimes it’s a miss, and their sense of fashion comes into question. One popular trend that they have displayed is lace-up leggings. The lace-up design may be on the front of the leg, or down the side. This mix of lace and tight spandex material may be something you are interested in. This idea seems to be catching on pretty well in the fashion world, as many people are mimicking this look. Whether it’s flattering or not is your decision- but you can be expecting these leggings to be seen this summer outside of school! ADDIE STEWART

Keeping up with fashion trends is not always an easy thing to do, especially considering they are constantly alternating between styles from the past and new ideas. One current item that is considered trendy is wearing fishnet leggings under jeans that are ripped and baggy. The style of jean is typically referred to as “boyfriend cut” pants because they are meant to be slouchy. A lot of women have advertised this look because they are normally extremely comfortable. They almost always have holes ripped down them and tend to be more popular in capri-length pants. To make the look edgier, however, people have begun to add the tight fishnet leggings under them so they are obvious through all of the holes in the jeans. Fishnet leggings originated years ago and has made a recurrence in the fashion world today. The look really seems to stand out and give a unique twist to anything you are wearing. So, this is your latest update in fashion- now it’s your turn to decide if this is a fashion hit or miss! |
