Color correcting is something most people who use makeup are familiar with, but to those who aren’t, it’s when you use other colors to balance out “imperfections” in your own skin. Doing this will make your face appear more airbrushed and free of blemishes. The colors most commonly used are green for redness, purple to neutralize yellows on medium skin tones, yellow to hide purple undertones, pink to brighten skin, and a color that matches their own skin tone to hide small blemishes. When color correcting, a beauty blender comes in handy mostly because you have to make sure the product stays on your skin instead of being wiped away, so using a blender to “beat” it into your skin will make it hold much longer. If you are into makeup, you have heard about fake eyelashes, eyelash extensions, and all types of mascara. All of these listed serve one common purpose- to make us women have the longer, beautiful eyelashes that everybody strives to have. It isn’t all that easy to apply them, however, and practice does mean perfection when it comes to this makeup trend. There are a few steps you must take to apply them. The steps all together should take no longer than five minutes once you have the steps mastered. The first thing you do is get eyelash adhesive. It is typically not expensive and sold at almost any type of general store. Next, apply a thin layer of glue and blow on it until it is almost dry. Remember to make sure you are applying the eyelash to the correct eye because that is a common mistake most people tend to make. The longer eyelash goes on the outside whereas the shorter eyelash side goes closest to your nose. After the adhesive has dried, get a pair of tweezers and lightly place the eyelash to your eyelid. Once it is placed how you want it, push it in to secure the lash. Let it set up and dry. The last step is to put a thin layer of eyeliner above the eyelash to make it less obvious that they are fake and give it a more finished look. ADDIE STEWART
The latest hairstyle trend is undeniably the space buns look. This fad is easy to complete and can be dressy or casual. It’s a very simple and quick up-do that can be completed in a matter of minutes. The first thing that is essential is to part your hair down the middle. Then, take one side and position the hair where you want the buns to be. Take the ponytail holder and wrap it around to create the bun. This same thing will be done on the other side, and as a result, you will have the space bun look. You don’t have to put all of your hair up either- you can do it half up, half down if you wish. You can even get creative and add braids into it. You can slick it back or go for a messy look with it. Either way, this new style is trendy and easy - so give it a shot! SADIE TREVINO
Even though most are unsure of the true origin behind the dark lipstick trend making a comeback, it cannot be denied that it is back and it’s everywhere. The spectrum of colors range from dark reds to blues and to blacks. These colors are ones that can either be worn for special occasions or even formal wear, depending on how you style them. All of them can easily be styled with a black top and any coordinating bottoms. There are a variety of opinions that come with this trend- some being good, and others not being so complimentary. However, to make your decisions you must first know the pros and cons of dark lipstick. Acting as a pro is the simple fact that dark lipstick can make anything seem more dressed up. It takes a matter of seconds to put dark lipstick on, but typically this gives a more dramatic effect and makes you stand out more. There is a wide range of dark colors that can match nearly every single outfit you own, making it very useful. On the con side, however, comes the stress of getting it on your teeth. Dark lipsticks are known for drawing attention, so if you smudge it, get it on your teeth, or do one line just a little crooked- it’s very noticeable. It also makes eating and drinking hard as well. The colors stain easily and it will be very obvious by the end of the meal when your inner lips are light pink and the edges are a deep red. There are hacks to make it easier to wear dark lipsticks all day long, but the final call is up to you! ADDIE STEWART
A lot of people have different views when it comes to body art. Some think it’s a beautiful thing that expresses a person and makes them unique. Others, however, are offended by some of the things people choose to put on their body and see it as unprofessional. A majority of people dedicate their tattoos to a loved one who is either still alive or passed away. There are multiple meanings to tattoos, and everybody has a different way of reasoning when it comes to getting one. Others see it as a form of art, and although it may not have a meaning- it’s something that they think is beautiful and they want it to be a part of them forever. The opposing view on tattoos is that they do not make a person seem professional or they just straight up look trashy. Honestly, I have seen some pretty horrible tattoos- but if it has a meaning to somebody, then it is simply not my place to judge. Tattoos should not determine a person’s capability of doing any kind of work. I can understand somebody being offended if they see a tattoo of a symbol that goes against their beliefs- but that still does not affect or harm anybody else. Tattoos are steadily becoming more socially acceptable, but it’s still up to you to decide if you like the trend or want nothing to do with it. SADIE TREVINO
With many new eyeshadow palettes being released, the bright shadow trends are coming back. These bold looks are ones that can be experimented with and can be used to coordinate outfits. The changing seasons bring opportunities to get new palettes; winter tones are more neutral, spring tones lean toward more brighter colors, summer tones are more vibrant yellows and coordinating colors, and fall tones are neutrals and burnt oranges. Trying out these different colors to go with the seasonal trends can be a lot of fun if you’re wanting to jump in and join the bandwagon of makeup. SADIE TREVINO
We all know that contouring-a way to make your face appear slimmer- has taken the world by storm. However, a majority of people don’t know the correct way to do this. Contouring and highlighting are when you create natural shadows to define the face. This is not something for first-time makeup “artists” to attempt, seeing how it can be tricky when you aren’t sure what you’re doing. A fellow student here has said, “this can be hard to do when you aren’t too sure what to do. You don’t want to end up looking like you have mud on your face.” A trick to getting the faux sharp cheekbones we all aspire to get is to suck your cheeks in and follow the hollows it creates. An important tip is to always blend with upward motions to avoid making your face look rounder. The key to highlighting is to enhance the naturally high places of your facial structure which include: cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose and above your eyebrows. This is a tricky thing to conquer, and it requires certain brushes or sponges. When it’s mastered- it looks great. If you have problems with it, just keep trying until you’ve gotten it down. Along with makeup comes a variety of trends. Most stay popular for a couple of months and then they are beaten out by the next big discovery in the makeup world. However, one trend that has seem to become very popular is fake freckles. Yes, not everybody likes freckles and the people who have them naturally tend to cover them up. It’s equivalent to having naturally curly hair, but always straightening it. We always want we can’t have. Luckily, achieving freckles can be done in under 2 minutes, and it does not require much artistic skill to draw these on. The first step is to get a contour stick-and yes, I mean stick, not a powder contour. Many tools can be used but the most widely common one to use is a Q-tip. You then dip the Q-tip into the contour and with light strokes, you dot it all over your face. When you are pleased with the placement and amount, try using a powder to matte it down to seem more natural. I would then suggest using a setting spray to keep them on longer. The magic of makeup never ceases to amaze us, and fortunately, it holds a lot of answers to becoming a more confident and happy person. ADDISON STEWART
In the fashion world, there is a lot of room for flaws and even more room for judgement. As a fellow supporter of the legging/yoga pants trend, I must draw a line somewhere as to what shirt is appropriate to wear with them. A lot of women like these pants because it “enhances” their figure, however, to some it does not complement the right areas. Wearing printed leggings especially needs to be left in the past years. A popular trend that is current is the leggings with built-in pads on the back side to create a smoother look. Young adults are all about having the perfect figure, and although all sizes are beautiful in their own way- spanx has become very well known in this area. They have created a material that clings to your body, making you look lighter, and giving you a shape. This trend is very helpful when it comes to wearing tight pants and shirts. As an alternative, women should wear leggings with a loose shirt that way people are not so focused on the wrong areas. This look will come off as classy and it can be formal or informal. So, next time you are faced with this decision- remember these tips and opinions to make it easier! SOPHIE BURKE
Eyebrows have been a hot topic in the makeup community lately. Girls seem to have perfect brows everywhere you look online. If you’ve tried filling in your brows or changing the way they look, you know there is a definite struggle. They can be blocky, the wrong color, or even just plain squiggly. “I don’t have really thick eyebrows, so just drawing them on and making them even are hard for me because I’m a perfectionist,” said Alex Buzbee when she was asked about the struggle of getting the her eyebrows right. Eyebrows come in all shapes and sizes, so there is no real definite model for the “perfect” brow that will fit anyone. Face shapes, personal preference, and even hair style can determine which eyebrow style is most fitting for your look. “You just have to find what’s right for you,” said Katelyn McDougal. ”You have to make sure the color is right, and you need to know your face shape and what eyebrow works best with that. Even though it may not seem like it sometimes, your natural brow shape could be the best for you.” In a perfect world, everyone’s eyebrows would just be automatically wonderful. This world is not perfect, however, so stick to these tips and your brows should look pretty great. SOPHIE BURKE
Winter is supposed to be a time for Christmas songs, sweaters, and hot chocolate. However, with colder weather, there seems to always be a problem with dry, flaky skin. When asked about her opinion on this problem, junior Reana Roberson said “It’s ratchet. It’s a problem that affects everyone, and it sucks.” While this problem affects virtually everybody, whether it be chapped lips or dry elbows, it can be helped. “The most important thing is to moisturize during the winter,” said Katelyn McDougal, “I use moisturizers from tubs, instead of bottles, because they tend to have more oil.” No matter who you are, dry winter skin is a problem. Just be glad that you’re not trapped in this cold weather forever! SOPHIE BURKE
This fall, the people of the world are divided between two functional fashion trends: jackets and hoodies. Both of these items can be fashionable and functional, but opinions vary. When asked about this subject, sophomore Aaliyah Eason said, “Hoodies are hard to put on, so jackets. Jackets can be cuter, and you can put on a jacket and look hot. People compliment jackets, not hoodies.” However, not everyone agrees with this point of view for different reasons. There, again, two different sides to this debate. Grant Ethridge, defending the hoodies, said this when asked why he liked hoodies better than jackets, “Hoodies hide all of your sad, depressing problems that you don’t want to face. Whenever you want to hide your bad hair day, you can put your hood up and be done with it.” In conclusion, both outerwear items are warm, but it is really up to the person wearing them to decide which is better. Either way, you just need to remember to slay and be yourself. |
