Recently, our fellow Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America (FCCLA) members held a haunted classroom on Thursday, October 20th. The proceeds from this fundraiser went towards the Special Olympics. The students who entered paid $1 to go through the classroom. It was well worth the dark halls and the spooks that went on. Most importantly the students raised money for a good cause. Here at DeQueen High School we are proud of our fellow students for thinking of others and doing things for a good cause. FCCLA sponsor Mrs. Jordan McMellon said, “We raised about $250 for the Special Olympics”. This shows our students know how to help others. These students sure know how to get into the Halloween spirit and give others a spook-tastic time. MIGUEL PACHECO

The teachers who went to listen to the devotion were: Mr. Lester, Mr. Sweeten, Mrs. Mills, and Ms. Delly. Starting this year, Mrs. Baker’s Drama classes are taking to the stage with more than one Senior Play this coming November 17th, with three different groups offering three different plays in the auditorium. The Thespians will perform Tim Mogford’s “Text This.” The play is about a teenage girl in high school after she becomes the victim of a cyber bullying problem and how the other characters in the play acknowledge their part in the bullying. This play will be performed in Mrs. Baker’s classroom as part of environmental theatre. Also known as site-specific theatre, environmental theatre blurs the lines between the actor’s space and the audience’s, using what they have around them as their “stage.” Performances will be as scheduled by Mrs. Baker and teachers. The Drama Society is performing “How to Succeed in High School Without Really Trying” by Jonathan Rand. The play gives advice and tips, some not to be taken too seriously, about how to survive high school...without really trying. The Dramatics will put on “What Happened After Once Upon a Time” by Alexi Alfieri, featuring a cast of familiar fairy tale characters, who are given the chance to correct a substitute story reader about what their lives were really like. While the class is only available for Seniors, we hope to see future twelfth graders indulge in the dramatics and sign up. |
